3rd February 2010 East meets West in a collision of systems

Low meets low

North Queensland ex tropical Cyclone Olga had been long forecast to move south and retrograde into SA. On its way it dumped some impressive falls over NE SA with over 90mm at Moomba! At the same time as Olga moved westward driving in and heading east was a significant troughline. 2 forces, immovable objects hitting head in, smack bang over Central South Australia. It looked amazing on the satellite imagery and could be seen clearly on the radar as well. What it did not do was produce much rainfall over the collision zone which can be seen on the radar loop below. This was perhaps a surprise. 12 hours later however when the troughline won the battle of the push some good falls up to 30+mm were to be seen east of the ranges.

All in all a very impressive visual sight. Not to mention quite rare in such high definition.
Radar and satellite loops can be seen below.
