Sept 20th 2003 lightning show

Previous Page

I left home around 5:30 to a half decent sunset and an ominous rumble in the distance...

We were heading for the Mallee country again..Some heavy but brief rain showers fell at Mt Barker, but had cleared by the time we hit the freeway and sped off east. A flash to the north caught my eye and as we crested the hill around Mt Barker a speccy forked CG cracked earthwards south of the lakes. More flashes to the north, then east continued all the way to our destination - Geranium.

Light rain at Geranium broke my concentration from the food table and I went outside to have look, there was lightning all round us every couple of minutes. As good as the wedges and chilli sauce were the chance of getting my first EVER lightning shots took over, so out onto the oval next door with a borrowed tripod (forgot mine - again!) and I started snapping away. They are not spectacular images, but hey they are my first and for what we had they pretty much captured the evening... Nothing is much better than a thunderstorm!
